“My son (brother, cousin, friend) is just starting out in the 'real' world. What's the first business suit he should buy?”
The first suit, known in the trade as the “interview suit,” has to be plain and dark. While solid black is oaky, navy blue makes the better choice since it is a touch more versatile. The jacket will be single-breasted with a two or three button closure. The uncuffed trousers will be either flat front of modestly pleated. Throw in a couple of plan white shirts and a few silk ties, for a change of clothing in case he gets a second or third interview. Once he lands the job, bring him back to Korry's for a more complete starter wardrobe.
“What is a trunk show?”
A trunk show is an opportunity for you to check out new tailored wear models and fabric swatches direct from a manufacturer's representative, as well as order custom made clothes that best reflect your personal style and lifestyle specifications. Better menswear retailers usually offer trunk shows several times a year and often sweeten the deal with some kinds of discount incentive. The name derives from bygone days when a travelling salesman would visit a store and unpack samples from his luggage truck.
“I've been invited to attend a wedding and am not sure what to wear?”
Start with the invitation. Is it an afternoon or evening wedding in a consecrated? Go with a tux or, failing that, a plain black or navy suit, white shirt, and silver-and-black “wedding tie,” along with the appropriate black belt, shoes and socks, Is it a non-traditional ceremony or scheduled for the morning hours? I always find a navy suit; white shirt and quiet tie work the best. If it is on a beach in Jamaica, go for a pastel sport jacket, open-necked shirt and tailored linen trousers. A white suit is also considered proper, though you run the risk of looking like Mr. Rourke from Fantasy Island.
“What should I be worried about more when shopping for a suit- staying in fashion or looking for longevity?”
I'm of the opinion that suits should be bought because they look right on you as an individual. The best suit will play up your physique's good points while disguising any small defects. It will be made from quality material, feature good, solid stitching, and it will sit properly on your body. These attributes should bless your suit with a long life, perhaps allowing it to be worn for as much as a decade. Fashion is the icing on the cake, Find out which style direction looks likeliest over the long term (your salesperson can help you with this) and then mimic it in a slightly more conservative stance. This will allow you to appear in the know without coming across as a fashion victim. And it will add a couple of years to your wardrobe as well.
“What exactly does 'business casual' mean?”
Business casual is a neat, crisp look that will do well even if you have a chance meeting with a CEO. Some may believe that business casual is supposed to be very informal look, which it is not. When dressing business casual, one may wear a sports jacket and dress shirt without a tie. Think of Deal or No Deal's Howie Mandel. Polo's should not be considered business casual, remember you may always roll up the sleeves of a dress shirt.
Casual clothes
Korry's carries a wide assortment of clothing which can be worn as business casual, depending on the dress code of the office, or on the weekends. The collection includes casual shirts, sweaters and pants from Haupt, Paul and Shark, Alberto, Victorinox Dion, Pavone, Victorinox, Pure, Jake Algave, Braga, Façonnable, Cotton Reel and Zegna Sport.
